Role Overview

Become a specialized Cloud Native and Kubernetes Platform Engineer. In this internship program, you will architect production Kubernetes clusters on AWS EKS, implement GitOps with ArgoCD, and deploy zero-trust service meshes with Istio.

  • Advanced multi-stage Docker builds & container runtime interfaces (containerd)
  • Setting up local test clusters with Minikube, Kind & K3s
  • Kubernetes architecture: Control Plane (API Server, etcd, Scheduler) & Worker Nodes (Kubelet, Kube-proxy)
  • Managing clusters with `kubectl`, context switching & namespace isolation

2 Core Workloads, Networking & Storage

Live Milestone
  • Deployments, ReplicaSets, StatefulSets, DaemonSets & CronJobs
  • Cluster networking: Pod-to-Pod communication, ClusterIP, NodePort & LoadBalancer services
  • Ingress Controllers (Nginx Ingress, Traefik) and automated SSL cert-manager
  • Persistent storage with PersistentVolumes (PV), PersistentVolumeClaims (PVC) & StorageClasses

3 Helm Package Management & GitOps with ArgoCD

  • Creating custom modular Helm charts with `values.yaml` templating
  • Managing chart dependencies, versioning & private Helm repositories
  • Setting up GitOps Continuous Delivery with ArgoCD
  • Automated sync policies, self-healing clusters & rollback mechanisms

4 Scaling, Reliability & Service Mesh

  • Horizontal Pod Autoscaling (HPA) and Vertical Pod Autoscaling (VPA) with Metrics Server
  • Cluster Autoscaler and Karpenter for dynamic cloud node provisioning on AWS EKS
  • Service Mesh implementation with Istio: Traffic shifting, Canary deployments & Mutual TLS (mTLS)
  • Chaos engineering: Simulating node failures and pod crashes

5 Cloud Security & Governance

  • Role-Based Access Control (RBAC): ServiceAccounts, Roles & RoleBindings
  • NetworkPolicies for zero-trust inter-namespace traffic isolation
  • Securing secrets with external secrets operators and HashiCorp Vault
  • Policy enforcement using OPA (Open Policy Agent) Gatekeeper / Kyverno

6 Production Cluster Monitoring & Capstone Sign-off

  • Deploying the Prometheus Operator and Grafana for full cluster observability
  • Setting up persistent alerting for node pressure, pod crashloops & resource saturation
  • Conducting a production readiness review and live Kubernetes disaster recovery drill
